Ward Companion- Halton Hospital Site Ward B1

We are looking for people to come along and help break the day up for our patients on B1 who have a long stay with us while they recuperate from an operation or illness. Our patients are with us for a minimum of six weeks and tend to be older people.

We want people to come along on the ward and engage the patients in activities and conversation. Often a long stay in hospital is a lonely experience and we want to make the day go faster.

We need people to come in and help with a variety of tasks. Every volunteer will have something to give. Activities may include:

talking to our patients
engage them in activities such as playing games or dominoes or similar
Relaying messages between patients and staff
supporting at meal times
offering social support

If you have a specific activity that you enjoy and would like to share, please let us know we are open to new ideas and suggestions

Started being a ward companion on B1, Meeting all the patients was great, offering them tea and coffee really made it easier to talk to some patients. Hearing about there day and trying to bring a smile to them I found fulfilling.

I really enjoyed talking with Victoria and she opened up and conversed with me.
